Additional Information

    I have tried a variety of ways to control the effects of early spaying without
    success:
           *  Serum
           *  Serum plus the interferon materials
           *  Serum plus gancyclovir
           *  Induced heat cycles with estrogen and progesterone.

         These methods have had no success.  The best I have been able to do is
    burn down the worst ulcers with 1% tincture of iodine solution.  Panalog
    ointment seems to have a ameliorating effect on the worst vaginal lesions,
    however, does not provide a cure.   My best advise is..............DON'T SPAY YOUR
    DOG BEFORE A FIRST HEAT CYCLE.  THERE IS NO WAY TO KNOW IF YOUR DOG IS
    A CARRIER OF HERPES VIRUS OR NOT!

            I have been told of herpes presenting as a respiratory disease by Dr. Evermann,
    however, I had not seen a case until recently.  One dog from a kennel of mastiffs
    was at a dog show and returned with a sniffle nose.  This spread rapidly
    throughout the other kennel dogs within about three days.  Giving 2 c.c. of
    ANTIDISTIMPER SERUM to all the dogs in the kennel stopped this disease
    overnight.  This might be worth a try in future cases, but I have only used it the one
    time.

        I also wish to  share with you this as well:  I  heard of one kennel of cocker
    spaniel dogs that contracted herpes virus and the owner  euthanized the entire
    kennel.

Please!
This is not necessary, adult dogs do not
die from this, and puppies don't need to either.
